Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home is run by Gerald, Mary, Caitlin and Kevin of the Dowd Family. Jerry, owner and director, began working with his uncle, John Bassinger, in 1977. John Bassinger and Marion (Holmes) Bassinger founded the J.M. Bassinger Funeral Home in 1950.
Jerry and Mary bought a home in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor in 1982 where they attend St. Catherine Church. Jerry was born and raised in Windsor Locks, the son of Robert J. and Kathleen (Holmes) Dowd. Robert, Kathleen, Diane and Jerry were communicants of St. Mary's Church and Robert and Kathleen were long-time high school teachers. Jerry is a member of the East Windsor Chamber of Commerce as well as the Connecticut and National Funeral Director Associations.
Mary (McMahon) Dowd was born and raised in Bloomfield, the daughter of Raymond and Marianne McMahon. Mary was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield where she and Jerry were married in 1980. Mary has worked for the East Windsor school system for many years and has actively participated in serving the town in the PTO and Booster Club. Caitlin and Kevin both attended the East Windsor public schools for all of their lives and are active members of the choir at St. Catherine Church.
